WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER SYSTEM FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Abstract

The rapid adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable transportation solution has intensified the need for efficient, convenient, and reliable charging technologies. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) has emerged as a revolutionary alternative to traditional conductive charging, offering seamless energy transmission without physical connectors. This paper presents an in-depth exploration of WPT systems for EVs, covering fundamental principles, recent technological advancements, and future prospects.
The study begins with a comprehensive literature review, analyzing key research contributions from Google Scholar and IEEE databases, focusing on inductive coupling, resonant inductive power transfer, and magnetic resonance coupling. A novel WPT system design is proposed, emphasizing efficiency optimization, safety compliance, and interoperability with existing EV charging standards. The system incorporates adaptive impedance matching, high-frequency resonant converters, and advanced coil topologies to enhance power transfer efficiency under varying alignment conditions.
Simulation results using ANSYS Maxwell and MATLAB/Simulink validate the system’s performance, demonstrating an efficiency exceeding 90% under optimal conditions. Experimental validation with a 3.7 kW prototype confirms practical feasibility, achieving 88% efficiency at a 10 cm air gap. Challenges such as electromagnetic interference (EMI), thermal management, and standardization are critically discussed.
The paper concludes with insights into future research directions, including dynamic charging integration, bidirectional power flow for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) applications, and AI-based optimization techniques. This study contributes to the ongoing development of WPT technology, paving the way for widespread EV adoption and smart transportation ecosystems.
